Advancing diversity & inclusion
Our work with equality, diversity and inclusion starts with our people, shapes our stories and touches our societies.
At Viaplay Group, we take a holistic and integrated approach in our work with equality, diversity and inclusivity. We want our stories to reflect a plurality of views and to appeal to diverse audiences. That’s why it’s important for us to give a voice to different groups and to be a safe space where people from all backgrounds can express themselves.
Gender balance, inclusion and diversity on & off screen
It is important to Viaplay Group that our content reflects the societies we operate in, with engaging stories that are relevant for as many people as possible. This is why we seek to portray a plurality of perspectives and cultures that appeal to a wide audience.
As part of our efforts to achieve this end, we carry out comprehensive mappings of the gender balance in productions in the creative value chain for scripted and non-scripted content to ensure that the creative forces behind our content are representative of the society viewing it.
We work hard to live up to our values and principles in our content production process. Therefore, we always include these values and principles, and our Supplier Code of Conduct, in our content agreements.
Equal, inclusive & diverse storytelling
To reach and attract existing and new audiences, our content must be both relevant and engaging. As a result, the Group works consistently with equality, inclusion, and diversity behind and in front of the camera. We are very proud of our Viaplay stories such as the Viaplay Film ‘Suedi’, Viaplay Series ‘Close to me’ and ‘Sort of’, and the Viaplay Documentary ‘the Prize of Silence’, which high-light the importance of representation and offer diverse storytelling that challenges stereotypes and norms.
Additionally, we aim to make our content accessible for a range of audiences and operate with the ambition to constantly eliminate barriers by making more diverse and accessible content available through subtitling, audio description and signing.
By the end of 2026 we will:
- Develop and implement 'Viaplay people + planet storytelling test' in all productions and invest in 20 productions emphasising diverse storytelling related to underrepresented groups (i.e. gender, cultural context, languages, religion)
- Making at least 25 Viaplay Series, Films, Documentaries, Sport Productions or Specials available on Viaplay with full accessibility (i.e. subtitling, audio description and sign language).
Gender balanced, inclusive & diverse workforce
At Viaplay Group we believe that a diverse and inclusive working environment leads to better decisions, greater creativity, increased engagement, and a highly motivating sense of belonging and purpose. It also helps to attract and keep the best talents. The Group’s People Policy stipulates the overall expectation to recognise the expertise and ability of every individual. Diversity for Viaplay Group is not just about factors such as age, gender, and ethnicity – but also about knowledge, experience, personality, and perspective.
